Italy Golden Visa · Legal assistance
Italy Investor Visa Lawyer
Italian law firm in Verona, investor visa files since 2018
The Italy golden visa is decided in Rome, by an interministerial Committee, under Italian administrative law. We prepare the file, document the origin of the funds, submit it to the Committee, follow the visa at your Italian consulate and the investor residence permit at the Questura. Twenty to twenty-five investor visa files a year, for clients in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.
What we do
The investor visa file, step by step, and who does what
An Italian golden visa application has five stages. We handle all of them from Verona; you sign, travel once and invest after the visa is in your passport.
Eligibility and route
We check that you qualify as a non-EU citizen, match your plans to one of the four investment options and their minimum investment amounts (Italian innovative startup €250,000, Italian limited company or venture capital fund €500,000, philanthropic donation in the public interest €1,000,000, Italian government bonds €2,000,000) and tell you in writing what the file will need. The qualifying investment is made after the visa is granted, not before.
Origin and availability of funds
Three of the Committee’s seven members exist to trace money. We prepare the cover letter on the origin and availability of the funds, assemble the bank and ownership evidence, and review the supporting documents — valid passport, clean criminal record, curriculum vitae, consent of the investment target — before anything is uploaded.
Application to the Investor Visa Committee
We submit the file on the government portal, answer the Secretariat’s admissibility check within the deadlines, and follow the Committee to its decision on the nulla osta (certificate of no impediment), which the law sets at thirty days from a complete application.
Visa at your Italian consulate
With the certificate of no impediment in hand, we prepare the national visa application for your Italian consulate, with the documents in the form that consulate asks for, and we deal with any query it raises.
Residence permit and the investment
After you enter Italy we handle the Italian residence permit for investors at the Questura, in Verona unless your plans say otherwise, and coordinate the investment itself with your bank, the notary or the custodian within the three-month deadline. Renewal and the conditions that keep the permit are part of the same engagement.
If the certificate is refused
A refusal is an act of Italian public administration and is challenged before the Italian administrative courts, where only a lawyer admitted in Italy can represent you. We tell you, before you engage us, whether a refusal is likely and what an appeal would involve.
How we work
What is different about having an Italian lawyer on an investor visa file
One firm, one signature
The same lawyers who write your source-of-funds file sign the submission to the Committee, appear at the Questura and would file the appeal. There is no local correspondent you never meet.
The file is built for the Committee, not for a brochure
The Financial Intelligence Unit, the Guardia di Finanza and the Revenue Agency sit on the Committee and each of them can block a file alone. A clean, fully documented €250,000 file is stronger than a poorly evidenced €2,000,000 one, and we build it that way.
Fees in writing before you sign
Our fee for an investor visa file is quoted once we know the route, the number of family members and whether the target needs due diligence. It is written into the engagement letter and does not move afterwards. State fees are €242.46 in total for the first two years, and they are listed on the investor visa page.
Correspondence in English, nothing by surprise
You receive a written answer at each stage, in English, by email. If the investor visa is not the right route for you — because the elective residence visa, or citizenship by descent, fits better — we say so at the first reply.

Fees
What an Italy golden visa lawyer costs
Our fee is quoted per file, in writing, before you engage us. It depends on the route (a government-bond file and a company acquisition are different amounts of work), on the number of family members who apply with you, and on whether the investment target needs legal due diligence. Once it is in the engagement letter it does not change.
What you pay the Italian State is public and small: the application to the Committee is free, the national visa is €116 at the consulate, and the residence permit costs €126.46 in stamps and postal fees — €242.46 in all for the first two years, excluding the investment itself. Notary, bank, apostilles, translations and the custody account for the bond route are third-party costs and vary; the full table is here.
The flat tax for new residents (€300,000 a year on foreign income from 2026) is a separate election, not part of the visa; we tell you whether it is worth considering, and we work alongside your CPA on the US side.
Questions we are asked
Before you engage an investor visa lawyer
Do I need an Italian lawyer for the Italy golden visa, or can I apply myself?
The portal is open to applicants directly, and some people file alone. The difficulty is not the form: it is the documentation of the origin and transferability of the funds, which the Committee’s anti-money-laundering members read first, and the sequence of deadlines afterwards (thirty days to complete a file, six months to use the certificate, eight working days to apply for the permit, three months to invest). A lawyer admitted in Italy is required only if a refusal has to be challenged in court; for everything before that, the question is whether you want the file built by someone who has done it before.
Why an Italian lawyer rather than a US immigration lawyer?
Because no United States authority takes part in the procedure. The certificate is issued by an Italian Committee in Rome, the visa by an Italian consulate, the permit by an Italian Questura, all under Italian law. A US adviser is useful for your American tax position, which does not disappear when you move; we work alongside your CPA on that and do not pretend the two sides are one job.
How much does an investor visa lawyer cost in Italy?
We do not publish a flat figure for investor visa files because the work varies with the route, the family and the target. We quote in writing after the first written assessment, and the figure in the engagement letter is the figure you pay. What the State charges is €242.46 for the first two years; the investment itself is yours and is made after the visa is granted.
Can you prepare the independent professional’s report on the origin of the funds?
Yes. Where the Committee’s documentation calls for a report by an independent professional on the origin and availability of the funds, the firm can prepare and sign it. The report is drawn up on the basis of the documents you provide and of the anti-money-laundering checks already carried out by your bank, and it is one of the pieces we build the file around rather than an afterthought. We tell you at the first assessment whether your route requires it and what we will need from you to sign it.
What does the Italy golden visa give me, and what does it not?
A two-year Italian residence permit for investors, renewable for three years, with no minimum stay to keep it for those first five years; the right to live in Italy if you choose to; and, like any Italian residence permit, visa-free travel in the Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180. After five years of continuous legal residence you can apply for the EU long-term residence permit, which is what most people mean by permanent residency. It does not give you Italian citizenship: Italy has no citizenship by investment, and naturalisation by residence is a separate, longer procedure. If your family has Italian ancestry, citizenship by descent may be a different and better route, and we say so when it is.
Where in Italy will my residence permit be issued?
At the Questura of the municipality you indicate in the application. Unless your plans point elsewhere, we indicate Verona, where the firm is based and where the permit procedure is handled by an office we deal with regularly. This does not bind you: once the permit is issued you may live anywhere in Italy, and, for the first five years, you are not required to live in Italy at all to keep it.
Can my spouse and children be included?
Yes. Spouse, dependent children and dependent parents enter under the family reunification provisions of the immigration act, by reference from article 26-bis. We prepare their applications together with yours and tell you which of the ordinary family requirements apply.
How long does the whole process take?
The legal deadlines are thirty days for the Committee, six months’ validity of the certificate, eight working days to apply for the permit after entry and three months to invest. Nobody publishes measured statistics on the total elapsed time, and we will not invent one; in our experience the consular appointment and the opening of the Italian bank account set the real pace.
